Why this exists
Long Table is a five-page site for a chef's table, supper club, or live-fire tasting-menu restaurant, built as one committed idea: the site is one long communal table, and you travel down it. The ground is a saturated wine-burgundy field — a natural-wine, candlelit jewel tone, no beige anywhere — lit by a warm pool of candlelight up in one corner. The masthead is a loud, high-contrast Bodoni Moda didone (the appetite of a printed carte), set over a refined Archivo sans; a warm mono (Spline Sans Mono) carries the machine data only — the course index, prices, times, vintages, and seat counts, in the voice of a kitchen ticket. The signature is on the Menus page: the meal is not a list, it's a JOURNEY. Six courses sit on a horizontal track that pans sideways as you scroll down — amuse, coastal starters, the shared live-fire main, cheese, something sweet, mignardise — each course arriving in turn like a plate set down in front of you. It's built with native CSS scroll-driven animation (view-timeline), no motion library and no scroll-jacking, and it degrades three ways so nothing is ever lost: reduced-motion stacks the courses vertically, JavaScript-off turns the track into a side-scrolling strip, and print shows the whole menu. Five pages — home (the hero + tonight's six courses), menus (the journey + a printable set menu), wine (a natural, low-intervention cellar by the glass and bottle), private events (buy out the room, gift the table, an enquiry form), and find us & reserve (address, hours, and split booking that links out to whatever you already run — Resy, OpenTable, Tock — with a native request form as the fallback). The buy-action is a single chili-red button; gold is the editorial accent, used on under five percent of any screen. Under the hood it's valid semantic HTML that works with JavaScript switched off, every colour pair computed to WCAG 2.2 AA with body text clearing 11:1 on the wine ground, one MIT smooth-scroll library (Lenis) and otherwise entirely our own code, and all three typefaces vendored so nothing ever loads from a font CDN. The hero ships with a real photo; every other image region is a designed empty-state placeholder with a spec label, so it looks finished the moment you drop your own plating in.
